Elo Ratings

Elo Ratings

Elo ratings are used for calculating relative skill in sequence. We are the rating system that was used for Age of Empires on MSN Gaming Zone, but we have the double precision. Ratings is an eight digits precision number with a scale of four. The default starting rating is 1600. The ceiling rating is 9999.9999 and the rating floor is 1. The K factor used is always 16, with a range of 1-31 points.

Due to limitations in the games design, Elo ratings are only counted when a flagged player PvPs another flagged player. If you have karma, or you are unflagged and one-hit a flagged player it will not count. If you have a clan war, it always counts as being "flagged" so all frags count that count as PvPs will do. Elo ratings do not decay for both players an clans.

The Elo ratings are calculated with these variables. D is change in rating as the difference. Next is K, it represents the K factor, which is the integral of distribution . L is the loser's rating before calculation and W is the winners rating before calculation.

   D = K + (L - W) * (K / 400)

   if (D < 1) D = 1; if (D > 31) D = 31;

   W + D = Winner's rating.
   L - D = Loser's rating.

For instance if you had a rating of 1650 and fragged a player who had a rating of 1640, it would work like this:

   D = 16 + (1640 - 1650) * (16 / 400)
   D = 15.6

The Winner's rating would change from 1650 to 1665.6 and the loser drops down from 1640 to 1624.4 for this PvP. The K factor is always 16.

Moreover, Elo ratings are also calculated for clans as well. Each clan has it's own Elo rating, and everytime both players are in a clan, the clan's Elo rating is updated.
